'Ivory Silk' Japanese Tree Lilac (Syringa reticulata)

  • One of the best small trees for a front yard
  •  White flowers in early/midsummer (after shrub lilacs) have a lovely fragrance
  • Rarely experiences pest or disease issues
  • Sun to light shade; average. well-drained soil
  • 15 ft. tall x 10 ft. wide; relatively slow growing

Columnar Norway Maple (Acer platanoides 'Columnare')

  • Dense, narrow shade tree ideal for small spaces
  • Large, classic maple shaped leaves
  • Golden-yellow fall colour
  • Surprisingly hardy in Greater Edmonton; needs a sheltered location in rural areas
  • Sun or part shade; fertile, moist, well-drained soil
  • 30 ft. tall x 10 ft. wide; relatively slow growing

'Crimson Sentry' Norway Maple (Acer platanoides)

  • Essentially a purple-leaved form of Columnar Norway Maple
  • Gorgeous specimen for narrow spaces
  • Best in a sheltered location
  • Sun or part shade; fertile, moist, well-drained soil
  • 25 ft. tall x 7 ft. wide; relatively slow growing

Columnar Eastern White Pine (Pinus strobus 'Fastigiata')

  • Upright, narrow evergreen with beautiful soft, blue-green needles
  • Perfect accent for narrow spaces
  • Hardy in Greater Edmonton, best in a sheltered location in rural areas
  • Sun or part shade; fertile, moist, well-drained soil
  •  30 ft. tall x 5 ft. wide
Hydrangea

Hydrangea (Hydrangea paniculata)

  • Group of hardy shrubs with a relatively compact growth habit
  • Dense clusters of flowers are in shades of white, pink, or red, depending on variety
  • Blooms in late summer to fall
  • Sun or part shade; fertile, evenly moist soil
  • Ranges from 2-5 ft. tall and wide, depending on variety
Fireside Ninebark

Ninebark (Physocarpus opulifolius)

  • Hardy, low maintenance group of shrubs
  • Maple-shaped leaves come in shades of bright yellow or burgundy, depending on variety
  • White flowers in late spring are followed by attractive red seedheads
  • Plant in full sun for best foliage colour; tolerates some shade, but leaf colour will fade
  • Average, well-drained soil; drought tolerant once established
  • Ranges from 3-7 ft. tall and wide, depending on variety

Lily (Lilium spp.)

  • These perennials can’t be beat for their summer floral display!
  • Some of our favourite hardy Asiatic and OT varieties are blooming in our Perennial House now
  • Many have a lovely fragrance; excellent cut flowers
  • Sun to light shade; fertile, moist, well-drained soil
  • Range from 2-6 ft. tall and 1-2 ft. wide, depending on variety

Daylily (Hemerocallis spp.)

  • Perennial with lily-like flowers available in a huge variety of colours
  • Each flower lasts just a day, but many blooms are produced over a period of several weeks; many reblooming varieties available
  • Attractive clumps of grassy foliage
  • Hardy and easily grown
  • Average, well-drained soil; drought tolerant once established
  • Range from 16-40 in. tall and 18-36 in. wide, depending on variety

'Pink Diamonds' Bleeding Heart (Dicentra spp.)

  • We absolutely love this newer variety of fernleaf bleeding heart!
  • Perennial with bright pink, heart-shaped blooms from late spring to late summer – one of the longest blooming perennials
  • Gorgeous ferny, blue-green foliage
  • Prefers part shade but tolerates sun with evenly moist, well-drained soil
  • 12-16 in. tall x 16-18 in. wide
