Garden Centre
GARDEN CENTRE LEADER
Full-time, year-round position
What You Will Do:
- Assist with training and giving direction and guidance to staff.
- Address customer inquiries, provide gardening advice, and resolve customer concerns.
- Oversee plant health by monitoring for pests, diseases, and proper watering and fertilization practices.
- Help to manage plant stock, including re-stocking and rotating inventory to maintain freshness and quality.
- If required, work with our receiving department to ensure plant material is offloaded, received, and put into the garden centre in a timely and organized manner.
- Work with our rose and delivery coordinator to assist if needed.
- Design and maintain visually appealing plant displays and signage throughout the garden centre.
- Assist with the over-seeing of the display garden both indoor and outdoor, depending on the season.
What You Will Bring:
- Positive leadership support by encouraging, motivating, and mentoring staff.
- Trees, shrubs & rose knowledge, and a willingness to share/teach both staff and our customers so they are able to make the best choices for their outdoor spaces.
- Physical stamina and strength as this job requires some lifting, moving plants and being on your feet for long periods of time. Perform physical tasks such as planting and pruning.
- Ability to work in all types of weather conditions.
- Must be flexible to work some evenings and weekends and work some extended hours during our busiest times (May/June & November/December).
- Willingness to learn how to operate a bobcat and other machinery used to move plant material, soil, pallets, etc.
- Open to acquiring new skills and work in other areas of the store in the late fall and winter months when the tree, shrub & rose area are closed for the season.
- The ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment.
PLANTING & DELIVERY LABORER
Part-time and full-time seasonal positions to work seasonally starting April 2025 (approximately).
What You Will Do:
- Perform labor-intensive tasks including load, transport, planting trees, shoveling, and digging.
- Carefully plant trees and shrubs in customer yards, while working efficiently as part of a planting team.
- Work outdoors in all weather conditions, including extreme heat, rain, and cold.
- Follow safety protocols to ensure the safe handling of trees, equipment, and vehicles.
- Collaborate with team members to complete tasks effectively and on schedule.
- Provide outstanding customer service by having an enthusiastic, helpful, and friendly attitude.
- Collaborate with team members to deliver and transport plants and supplies safely to customers, always adhering to safety protocols and ensuring a safe working environment.
- While experience in operating delivery vehicles is preferred, it is not required—we are happy to train the right candidate.
What You Will Bring:
- Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Experience with repetitive tasks such as planting, shoveling, digging, bending, and kneeling.
- A valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- A strong work ethic, positive attitude, and a team-player mindset.
- An ability to work flexible hours, including weekends, evenings, and holidays, as required.
