Windowsill Growing
February 28, 2021
The days are feeling brighter and spring is on the horizon but it will still be a while before we can get digging outdoors. With daylight hours increasing, there are so many things we can grow on our windowsills to keep our green thumbs going.
Herbs
We have a good assortment of herbs in 4” pots ($6.99). Keep them growing strong by placing pots in a south or west window.
Don’t be shy; herbs should be trimmed frequently to promote bushy growth. They will add so much fresh flavour to your dishes!
Vegetables
Some veggies need an extra early start. If you’re wanting to grow your own peppers, onions or woody herbs (rosemary, thyme, etc.) from seed, now is the time to start.
Onion varieties we love include ‘Milano’ and ‘Cabernet’, and great peppers to try are ‘Right on Red’ or ‘Marconi Italian’.
Mixed Greens
Arugula and mixed greens are so easy to grow! Within weeks of sowing you’ll have a lovely crop to snip and toss into salads.
Try something new! West Coast Seeds has a wonderful selection of unique greens like Orach, Mustard, Watercress and more.
